Spain, August 2003.
Place: A rest area on the road N340, in the south of Cambrils, approx. 25 km.
Scorpion found : Buthus occitanus
Description : On the side of a hill in edge of a forest. At a few meters of the rest area, a large natural circus with a varied and abundant fauna. The exposure to the south gives a significant temperature and the presence of the some shrubs or bushes obstructed zones of very beneficial shade on the ground which is however extremely dry. The scorpions are found (blue arrows) under stones of average size between the bushes in a very dry hole.
Spain, August 2005.
Place: In the scrubland, at 16 km in the south of L'Hospitalet de l'Infant, on the road N340.
Scorpion found : Buthus occitanus
Description : A piece of scrubland betweens the fields of olive-trees. Many bushes and a sun very present make that this place is rather rather arid the summer, however, the presence of hills to a few hundred meters makes that the streaming of rainwater comes on this scrubland and allows a relative moisture of the ground (see the first photograph). It is not necessary to move away very far from the way to find the first specimens. Presence of much of insects (grasshoppers, locusts, phasmids ...) but also of predatory potentials (scolopendras, praying mantis, geckos...). The scorpions are found under stones of average to gross size (blue arrows).
